The NGV’s first exhibition exclusively dedicated to T-shirts delved into Melbourne’s profound passion for cotton. Showcasing a diverse array of influential local artists, brands, and designers, it also highlighted the often-overlooked contributors to the city’s T-shirt scene, such as independent screen-printers and retailers. Among the exhibits were timeless local tees and notable T-shirt souvenirs. Eddie Zammit, the curator, conducted extensive research to uncover prominent items that demonstrated the enduring influence of Melbourne’s T-shirt culture throughout its history and in contemporary times.
